Last Dance….Endings

Brothers and Sisters:

“You are the sky. Everything else- it just the weather” ……………………Chodron

You’ve got a lot of nerve; to say you are my friend” ………………………Dylan

Find the cost of freedom; buried in the ground” …………………………..Young

“The fever’s raining down upon us

The cost we pay for shutdown eyes.

Howlin’ winds and storms around us

Led by the Devil in disguise” …………………………………………………Berry

The autumn fast turns towards winter…. sticks frame the lost laden woods……polar chill hits the night air…. people head to dormancy until the snows fall…and for us…it is time to leave….It has been a week and  days of endings.

For many, like me it feels like the end hope…and kindness……at least for now

For young people, I know, this week has felt like an end to innocence…of belief in good……. of the right thing….

It is the end of a general period of quietude and the re-start of Bombast, calling names, and cruel thoughts and words…………………………

Something ended this week that I can’t quite put words to yet, but that strikes a major discordant chord that will sustain……………..

More personally, it has been an ending for us today with a friend I said goodbye to for the last time and to two others we leave deep with their grief that we have been part of and a maybe a bit of an insulator from, at times.

It is the end of our daily visits form our little Ivy, with no assurance she will be here when we return….

It is the end of meandering walks on dirt roads … with THE light…always the light…

It is the end of another cycle of light and color…replaced by dark and grey (have you wintered in central Ohio?) …..

It is the end of a three-month musical goodbye journey to Keep the Circle Unbroken….

This wend we said goodbye to the Dumpmaster and The AD, The Masseuse in the Trailer, The Empress’ family, The Erstwhile Russian spy, The Self –Proclaimed Trophy Wife…and the cast of hundreds of curmudgeons, Vermont hipsters and communers, Bernie-acolytes….and all the Green people of The Mount……

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio…

Onward, Yiddish soldiers……. we take our leave mid-week….…and I take my seasonal leave all of you, my friends and sometimes readers…………See you in the reviews…and …on the flip side.

Go with grace. Keep your chins up. Keep fighting the good fight-all will not be forsaken.
